February 2011 - Emergent and resurgent pathogens


In a world where flu, HIV and C. difficile often dominate the headlines, it is easy to overlook the emergence of novel infections, and the resurgence of infectious diseases that we may have thought were consigned to history. In this issue of Microbiology Today we look at just a small selection of bacterial, viral and fungal infections, old and new, that are of current cause for concern.

Going Public
A grant from the SGM Education Development Fund helped Gareth Wyn Griffith and his colleagues from the University of Aberystwyth to organize a display about fungi at one of Europe's largest youth festivals - the Urdd Eisteddfod - in Wales last summer.
